About the Department:

The Department Bengali was established since the establishmet of the College in 1964. Prof. Brojen Acharjee was the pioneer of the said Department. After Prof Acharjee the following faculty members i.e. Dr. Ajoy Chakroborty, Prof. Ruby Bhawal, Prof. Prem Ranjan Rakshit, Prof. Shiba Prasad Bhattacharya, Prof. Madhabi Bhattacharjee contributed their service responsibility. After the retirement of Prof. Shiba Prasad Bhattacharya in 1995, Dr. Debjani Taron Sarma joined instead of him on 1996.

Objectives.

The objective of the Department is to encourage the students to find out their potentials. Beside the aim of the Department is to produce ideal citizens for fulfillment of social obligations. The aim is to promote various co-curricular activities against the students for their mental uplift. The Department always emphasizes honesty, sincerity, hard work and dedication amongst the student by producing academically excellent students’ sensible and honest citizen.

Madhurima Roy a student of 4th semester secured A+ in the Bengali MIL in T.D.C. examination 2016.

Departmental Activities:

  • Wall Magazine: “ Punachcha” a wall magazine is prepared by the students of Department of Bengali with the guidance of teacher in every year.
  • Every year students are taken for educational tour.
  • Department organized an alumni meet on November 2019. 25 nos of alumni attend the meet with professors of various Department were present
  • Dept of Bengali in collaboration of Assamese Dept organised An Introduction session on Structures, Pronunciations and Varieties of Assamese and Bengali Alphabets from Phonological Perspective Resource person Dr Barun Kumar Saha.prof Dept of Bengali.Gauhati University.on 29thJune 2022

Extra curricular Activities:

  1. 1. Two students of the department participated Inter College Choras Competition in the Book Fair and received first prize on December 2017.
  2. 2. Two students of the department participated in the General Excursion in the Kaziranga National Park on October 2017.
  3. 3. Ten students have participated in Bhupendra Sangeet Competition on 5th November 2019.

Future Plan :

Institutional Development Perspective Plan in view of NEP-2020 (IDP).
  1. 1. Comparative study of language & literature on both Assamese and Bengali, have been already started from 29th June 2022.
  2. 2. Introducing internal workshop and exchange programme both on Bihu dance and Bengali traditional Dance, Songs, Drama etc.
  3. 3. Planning to introduce Personality Development activities in term of creativity writing and academic writing etc.
  4. 4. In future willing to establish Rabindra Study Centre in the Deptt.
  5. 5. Willing to introduce Major (Honors) courses in the Deptt. as soon as possible.
