ELECTORAL LITERACY CLUB (ELC)

The ELC was formed as per the directive of the Election Commission of India in order to enhance awareness about democratic values among the prospective voters. Since its inception, the ELC has organized various events like celebration of National Voters’ Day and Constitution Day every year on 25th January and 26th November respectively. It conducted essay writing competition, debate competition, extempore speech competition etc among the students in order to inculcate in them democratic values. An awareness camp on EVM and VVPAT inside the college premise was also organized to make the students aware about the same. It successfully conducted a training programme of the Election Officers engaged in the General Election of our country by the Master Trainers appointed by the Kamrup Metropolitan Election District. In the run up to the celebration of the National Voters Day, the ELC has organized a patriotic song and dance competition on 4th January, 2022. On 5th June a plantation drive was organized by ELC where saplings were planted at different areas in the campus and given out to people near the College. An awareness cum outreach campaign on Har Ghar Tiranga was organized on 11th August, 2022 where National Flags were given out to the students to hoist at their own homes on 15th August. A Prabhat Phere was also organised by the ELC on the eve of completion of 75th years of India’s independence in the year 2022. A special Camp was organized in Guwahati College for enrollment of new voters of the targeted age group of 17 to 21 years by the District Election Officer, Kamrup (M) Election District, Guwahati.
